Blogging is a great way to promote your business online, so is YouTube. If you currently use both of these channels you may wonder how to bring them together.

One way is to make your YouTube video the basis of a blog post; the video could make up the entire post, or you could mix it up with a story, guide or tutorial.

Another way is to make sure you link to your website/blog from every video you publish on YouTube. Adding a description and link to your YouTube video page is fairly straight forward, but embedding a video from YouTube into your WordPress blog is a little more complicated. Here’s how to do it without using a plugin.

Step 1

Navigate to the YouTube video you want to embed into your post.

Step 2

When you locate the video, look for the share link, which you’ll find in the menu options under the video, and click it:

Get embed code YouTube

When you first click Share you will see something like this:

YouTube Share

Most of the time you want to start a video at the beginning, but if you want to start it at another place, enter the time in the Start at: box (bottom right hand corner).

Step 3

To get the code, click on the Embed link (highlighted with an arrow in the above picture).

You will see this (the code you need is usually highlighted blue, but I removed the highlight for this picture) :

Step 4

YouTube makes its videos available in a few different standard sizes, or you can choose a custom size if you prefer. If you want to use a custom size, enter the width you want (in pixels) in the left hand box. YouTube automatically adds the height to the right hand box.

Step 5

If you want to use a standard size, choose it from the dropdown menu. When you choose a standard size, YouTube highlights the code for you, if you choose a custom size, it doesn’t.

Now copy the code and move over to your blog post.

Step 6

In a WordPress blog there are two types of editor: Visual and Text.

When embedding a YouTube video, you must be in the Text editor as you are pasting in code. You switch between the two using tabs in the top right hand corner of the writing area.

Make sure you choose Text, work your way through the post to the place where you want to video to appear, and paste in the code.

Step 7

Finish editing your blog post in the usual way and publish/update. The video will now be inside your blog post so visitors can watch it without leaving your site.
